About Badger Violins

Christine Badger grew up in Graz, Austria, in a family steeped in craft and music. Her father was an instrument maker — building Hackbretter, the traditional Austrian hammered dulcimer — and hers was a childhood shaped by the making and sounds of instruments.

Christine trained as a Luthier and Bowmaker in Vienna around 30 years ago, learning her craft in one of the world's great centres of classical music. She has since brought that tradition to Hobart, where her Glebe workshop has become a quiet centre of expertise for musicians across Tasmania.

Whether she is building a new violin or viola, restoring a treasured instrument, or re-hairing a bow, her work reflects a lifetime's connection to the craft — one that began long before she ever picked up a luthier's tool.
